The Wood Hounds

Dan and Joe attempt to "convey" their stories about recent upgrades and repairs made to machines at both their wood yards.  One thing is certain...sometimes it's better just to leave stuff alone!

Today Dan and Joe talk about how their summers are going and how they are avoiding the excessive heat of this early summer. 

Today Dan and Joe talk about wood smoke and how certain areas of the country are dealing with different problems involving wood fires. They discuss the current poor air quality in their region from the Canadian forest fires and also a renewed push in NYC to combat particulate emissions from the many wood-fired pizza ovens in the City.

Dan and Joe get sidetracked during today's episode and discuss some past comments that were left on their YouTube channels.  It seems YouTube personalities can have a Love-Hate relationship with commenters to their channels but there seems to be a certain type of comment that can get under both Dan and Joe's skin.  

Today Dan tells us all about his major project at his wood yard...a VersaTube carport that will cover his splitters and other firewood machines.  Dan was super excited to get started on this project but he soon found out there were a number of challenges awaiting him.  

A week after hosting Professor John Pastor discussing his book "White Pine" Dan and Joe spend time discussing the experience they had learning about this iconic American tree.

John Pastor is an ecologist and professor of biology at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, where his teaching and research focus on the natural history and ecology of northern ecosystems. Pastor is the author of Mathematical Ecology of Populations and Ecosystems, is co-editor of Large Mammalian Herbivores, Ecosystem Dynamics, and Conservation, and has authored or coauthored 22 book chapters and over 120 papers, mostly about the North Woods. He is co-chair of the Natural History Section of the Ecological Society of America.
